MGL 40th Anniversary Celebration
by Woden South
Founded by Fr Ken Barker in Canberra in 1986, the MGLs have grown from their local beginnings into missions across Australia, the Philippines and Indonesia. Their purpose remains at the heart of their work: “We are dedicated to bringing the Good News of God’s love to those who do not yet know His love.” They have a particular focus on young people and the poor.
The anniversary falls during the MGL Convocation 5-14 October 2026. Around 40 priests from mission locations around Australia and overseas, including Indonesia and the Philippines, are expected to gather in Canberra. It will be a special chance for the community to welcome them, give thanks for four decades of ministry, and celebrate the people whose faith and friendship have been part of the MGL story.
Anniversary Mass: 11 am, Sunday 11 October 2026
Venue: St Benedict’s Church, Narrabundah
After Mass: A simple BYO lunch to share
Everyone is warmly invited to join the MGLs for Mass and stay to share lunch and conversation.
