Confirmation

Our 2026 Confirmation Program will run in Term 3 of 2026

Enrolments will open 24 June 2026 & the program will begin on 29 Jul 2026.

In the Sacrament of Confirmation, the baptised person is “sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit” and is strengthened for service to the Body of Christ.

Dear Parents and Carers,

We welcome you and your child into the life of our Parish through the Sacrament of Confirmation. As the final of the three Sacraments of Initiation, this is a wonderful opportunity for parents and children to continue their faith journey together. Our program is for any child in Year 6 or above who has been baptised Catholic, and completed the other Sacraments of Initiation (First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion).  Our Parish schools, classes and community support you in undertaking this important role.

Confirmation is about renewing one’s Baptismal promises.  Just as bodies and minds grow, Catholics believe that the soul also needs to grow in the life of grace. Confirmation establishes older children as ‘full-fledged’ members of the faith. This sacrament is called Confirmation because the faith given by the parents in Baptism is now confirmed, by the child him/herself, and made strong.

This time also provides parents/carers with the opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to the practice of the Catholic Faith, which began at Baptism, and to deepen their relationship with Christ. This renewed commitment necessarily involves participation at Mass and the reception of the sacraments.  This is also an opportunity for non-Catholic parents to understand and share in their child’s faith journey.

Your part in your child’s preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation

You are the first teacher of your child’s faith.  In their preparation for the sacraments we, the Parish and school community, will support you.  However, we rely on your involvement in attending the sessions with your child, helping them to learn at home, ensuring that they complete at least one Act of Service during the course of the program, and ideally attending Mass each weekend. Acts of Service consist of the candidate helping with an aspect of parish life, usually by assisting with something at Mass, such as reading or being a welcomer. The program sessions are held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm to 7:30pm during the school term.  All sessions are held at Sacred Heart Church, 115 Hodgson Cres, Pearce. Please plan to attend all the sessions, one of the Presentation Masses and at least one other Mass during the program. If this might be difficult for you, please contact our Sacramental Co-ordinator on 6286 1908 before enrolling.
